Solicitor at Harding Evans joins Cardiff & District Law Society’s LGBTQ+ Subcommittee

We are delighted that Emma Sweeney from our Children Law department has joined the Cardiff & District Law Society’s LGBTQ+ Subcommittee.

Founded in 1886 by a group of the city’s most prominent lawyers, Cardiff & District Law Society (CDLS) is the largest regional law society in Wales, serving 2000+ members. It is their mission to further the interests of local legal professionals and the community, to champion access to justice for all and promote Cardiff and District as a centre for legal excellence.

Emma will be part of their LGBTQ+ subcommittee, who recently launched with their ‘Reaching for the Rainbow’ initiative, focusing on internetworking in the legal sector and ensuring that there is a support system for all LGBTQ+ colleagues, irrespective of whether they are already part of an LGBTQ+ network or not.

Commenting on the launch, Emma said: “I am delighted to be part of the LGBTQ+ Subcommittee and feel that something like this has been needed for a long time. The legal profession has made huge strides over the years and many law firms now have LGBTQ+ inclusive policies and procedures in place, however, visibility matters, and it is important to have LGBTQ+ role models and allies to empower others to feel that they can be their authentic selves in the workplace. I certainly would have welcomed such a network at the outset of my career! Diversity within the legal profession is a strength that should be nurtured and celebrated, as we can each bring our talents and different life experiences to the table. I also hope to support the LGBTQ+ Law Clinic to provide legal advice and assistance to members of the LGBTQ+ community in a safe space.”

The subcommittee network is open to LGBTQ+ identifying individuals and allies, providing a safe space for everyone to feel open and connected with other LGBTQ+ legal professionals.
