UK Covid-19 Inquiry gets underway

The substantive hearing for Module 1 of the UK Covid-19 Inquiry has begun.

Today (13th June 2023) sees the first substantive hearing for Module 1 of the UK Covid-19 Inquiry get underway in London. We are representing Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice Cymru (CBFJ Cymru), who have been awarded Core Participant status in this Module, as well as later Modules 2, 2B and 3. We will be present throughout this hearing to ensure that the voices of the bereaved families in Wales are heard and to seek as many answers as possible.

If you wish to watch the hearings, you can do so here.

Module 1 is designated to look into the preparedness for the pandemic. It will assess if the pandemic was properly planned for and whether the UK was adequately ready for that eventuality. This module will touch on the whole system of civil emergencies including resourcing, risk management and pandemic readiness. It will scrutinise government decision-making relating to planning and seek to identify lessons that can be learnt.
