Clinical Negligence

Tackling NHS Complaints

A recent Freedom of Information request revealed that the Aneurin Bevan Health Board had received 3,300 complaints between July 2021 and June 2022. Of those, 430 have received a delayed response and a further 32 new investigations have been opened by the Ombudsman.

Whilst we do not know the nature of these complaints, what is certain is that any lengthy procedure can have a psychological impact on the complainant, who may well be feeling frustrated and ignored, in addition to any physical impact they may be suffering.

The pandemic has, of course, had a huge impact on the way that services are offered and if complaints are not being addressed in a timely manner, it delays the Health Board’s ability to listen and learn from mistakes and implement improvements.

Wales is fortunate to have the “Putting Things Right Scheme” which means that instructing solicitors to assist you with a complaint about medical treatment in Wales need not necessarily cost you anything.  If you live in Wales, we can also assist you with complaints about medical treatment received in England because of special “Cross Border” arrangements.

If you have suffered because of medical negligence and feel you are struggling to be heard, we’re here to listen. As specialist solicitors in this field with an accredited AvMA Panel Member, we are one of the few firms in South Wales that are fully qualified to assist you with your NHS complaint, not just against Aneurin Bevan Health Board, but GP surgeries and other Health Boards across Wales. Contact Debra King on 01633 244 233 to discuss your concerns further and to establish if you may be entitled to compensation.
