World Patient Safety Day 2025

Safe care for every newborn and every child!

Each year on 17 September, World Patient Safety Day brings global attention to a critical issue in healthcare: preventing avoidable harm to patients. For 2025, the spotlight is on our youngest patients, with the theme: “Safe care for every newborn and every child.”

This year’s campaign highlights the importance of building safe care into the earliest stages of life. The slogan, “Patient safety from the start!”, is a powerful reminder that protecting children’s health begins at birth and continues through early childhood.

Children can sometimes have illnesses that are not common in adults: congenital and inherited diseases, for instance, or infectious childhood diseases. Add consent and legal responsibility issues to this, and you have an area of medicine that is very complex.

From the moment a child is born, they deserve healthcare that is not only effective but also safe. However, infants and young children are especially vulnerable due to their developing bodies, unique health needs, and changing conditions. Mistakes in care – even small ones – can have serious, lifelong effects.
