If you have been injured as a result of an assault
or a criminal activity in which you were not committing an offence, an application
can be made to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) who may
award you damages in respect of those injuries, subject to certain criteria.
CICA is a government run scheme designed to compensate people who are the victims of crime. As a general rule the limitation period for making a claim to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority is two years, although again, there are some exceptions which our experienced team can advise you upon.
Public Funding from the Legal Services Commission may be available to fund the costs of making such a claim.
