Leading law firm wins prestigious business award
One of South Wales’ leading law firms has been named the best in Wales for inspiring young talent at the Business in the Community Responsible Business Awards in Wales. The Responsible Business Awards in Wales showcase the best of responsible business in action in companies of all sizes and sectors across Wales.
HardingEvans was named as winner of the Dŵr Cymru Inspiring Young Talent Award category, at the prestigious award ceremony in Cardiff, in recognition of the success of their #TeamHE Be Inspired work experience and professional training programme. The #TeamHE Be Inspired programme covers a wide range of applicants from training contracts for law students to schemes such as Jobs Growth Wales.
HardingEvans recognises the importance of supporting young people during their transition from education into the world of work. The company believes that it is not only important to provide employment but also the skills required to build a successful career, continually challenging and motivating staff.
Joy Phillips, Practice Director said: “This award is testament to the hard work of the whole HardingEvans team in making our #TeamHE Be Inspired programme a success. The young people we employ are talented and hard working and bring an energy to our business that is infectious. We know how good they are, they know how good they are, but it is nice to have the external recognition that #TeamHE Be Inspired is truly something special.
“Our initiative is an important part of our strategic development and not only fulfils our ambition to make a difference to the community but is also making a real difference to our business. The programme came about as our way of addressing the ‘lost generation’ and helping young people find a way into meaningful employment.”
As well as providing job opportunities for staff, to date, 60 young individuals have benefited from 60 weeks of work experience in the past five years providing opportunities for them to make informed choices about their future career. Hosted by Lucy Owen (BBC Cymru Wales), the ceremony featured an address by Steve Holliday CEO, National Grid, the 2014 UK Responsible Business of the Year. He was joined at the event by Stephen Howard, Chief Executive of BITC and Rosie Sweetman, Director of BITC Cymru.
Commenting, Rosie Sweetman, Director, BITC Cymru, said: “The 2015 Awards has been a record year for BITC Cymru and we heard from companies of all sizes and sectors who are achieving commercial success in ways that honour their values and drive real economic, social and environmental impacts in communities across Wales. Responsible business is about how a company makes its money, not simply how it returns a profit. This was clearly articulated by HardingEvans in their 2015 Award entry and I congratulate the entire team for their achievement. BITC Cymru is looking forward to working with HardingEvans as together we continue to grow the Welsh responsible business network and demonstrate that business is a force for good.”
The 2015 Wales Responsible Business Awards were sponsored by National Grid, the Welsh Government, Finance Wales, Wales & West Utilities, Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water, Careers Wales, Network Rail Cymru Wales and the South Wales Chamber of Commerce. Media Wales were the media partner and the drinks reception was kindly provided by Adnams and Levy Restaurants UK.
