Legal help for readers on road

news - 2004 roadshow team

When an employee of a Premier League football club was excluded from buying shares due to an administrative error by the club, he sought advice from the legal team on hand at the second Harding Evans Solicitors / South Wales Argus roadshow which was held in Bassaleg last week.

One of the solicitors gave the Argus reader expert legal advice including the options available and suggested that he firstly wrote to the club to see what their response would be before considering any legal action.

The legal team of Stephen Dance, Karen Maher and Wyn Williams saw a number of people during the evening and helped one couple who were having problems with their neighbour who wants to move a boundary wall in order to build an extension.

A specialist property lawyer was on hand to offer expert advice and said that under the law the neighbour has to comply with a number of obligations which would ensure that the boundary wall would have to be rebuilt and put back in exactly the same place once the extension has been built. The couple were also advised that the neighbour would have to seek planning permission before the extension was built and if they felt this extension would invade their privacy this would be legitimate grounds for objecting to an application for planning permission.

The team were busy all evening and saw a number of other people who wanted legal advice on a range of problems including divorce, bankruptcy and immigration. This year there has been a large number of people coming to the roadshows for advice on problems with neighbours including boundary disputes and noise nuisance complaints.

Zep Bellavia managing partner of Harding Evans said “Every year we are delighted by the number of people who come to our roadshows for legal advice and this year is no exception”.

The next roadshow will be held tomorrow in Caerleon outside the shops in Roman Way and three expert lawyers will be on hand from 6pm – 8pm to offer free and confidential legal advice.
