Following an accident at work
several years ago an employee of a Gwent business sought legal
advice at the second Harding Evans Solicitors / South Wales Argus
roadshow in St. Julian’s last week.
The Argus reader spoke to one of the specialist solicitors on hand
and said that the accident happened at work when a steel beam
weighing over a tonne fell on his shoulder and foot. The accident
wasn’t reported as his employer did not have an accident book and
the man had no time off work. He did however go to his doctor a few
months later.
The man was advised to make a claim for compensation immediately
as the 3 year limitation period for making a claim was rapidly
approaching. If the claim was successful the reader would be
entitled to compensation.
The legal team of Karen Maher, Nerys Williams and Gareth Fortey saw
a number of people throughout the evening and offered advice on many
issues including building a property on council land, making a will,
inheritance tax advice, a debt problem and an industrial disease
claim.
In another case a reader sought advice regarding his neighbours’
tree which was overhanging onto his property. He was advised that
under the law he is entitled to cut back the branches in line with
the boundary and throw them back over to his neighbours property.
However this is the root of many neighbour disputes and the better
alternative would be to dispose of the branches himself.
Zep Bellavia, managing partner of Harding Evans commented “The St.
Julian’s roadshow is always popular and this year was no exception.
The team were busy all evening and gave legal advice to a large
number of people”.
The next roadshow will take place tomorrow in Bassaleg, outside the
shops in Laurel Drive and three lawyers will be on hand from 6pm to
8pm to offer free and confidential legal advice. Anyone can come
along and you don’t need an appointment.
