When an employee of a Welsh charity was threatened with redundancy, she sought advice from the legal team at the first Harding Evans Solicitors / South Wales Argus roadshow which was held in Maindee last week.

The Argus reader said that her employer had not followed any statutory procedures and there was now a lot of uncertainty about her job. She was advised to write to her employer and make a complaint. If the employer did not reply or their response was unsatisfactory, then she may have a claim for unfair dismissal and was advised to make an application to the Employment Tribunal.

The legal team of Andrew Christie, Jayne Fletcher and Victoria Garratt also advised one person who was having problems over a boundary wall. Their neighbour had constructed a building which was interfering with the boundary wall. The matter was made worse when the neighbour erected a roof on this building which leans across the boundary wall.

A specialist solicitor was on hand and advised the person that the best option would be to issue a claim at County Court as the neighbour had not served notice of works on the boundary wall. If the claim was successful the Argus reader would be entitled to compensation.

During the evening the team also helped other people who came to get legal advice on a range of problems including council tax, problems with a builder and storage of possessions by an ex-partner.

Zep Bellavia, managing partner at Harding Evans commented “The team were kept busy and saw a number of people who benefited from free expert legal advice”

Throughout June the roadshows will be visiting St. Julian’s, Bassaleg and Cwmbran in the Argus mobile unit. Specialist solicitors will be available at each venue to offer free and confidential legal advice. The next roadshow will take place tomorrow in St. Julian’s, outside the shops in Heather Road. Anyone can come along for free and confidential legal advice.
