Probate Growth is Testament to Law Firms Ambition

Fast-growing law firm, Harding Evans, has recruited three specialist solicitors in a major expansion of its Wills and Probate department.

With the average wealth of families in South East Wales climbing sharply due to soaring property prices, the firm say an increasing number of people need expert advice in handling their Wills and difficult issues such as inheritance tax.

The three who have joined the team are experienced probate lawyers and inheritance tax planners, Margaret Banks and Sarah Lahive and Paul Lindsey.

After several years with a leading law firm in Wiltshire, Margaret is returning to Wales, where she has spent most of her earlier career. She is a keen gardener and Glamorgan cricket supporter.

Sarah, who graduated from Warwick University and undertook her legal practice course at Chester, is an associate member of Solicitors for the Elderly. She joins Harding Evans from a Bridgend law firm.

Swansea University graduate Paul is a native of Newport and has joined from another legal practice in the City. He is a keen follower of Formula One racing, rugby and American football.

Commenting on his appointment, Paul said: “Harding Evans’ rapid expansion over the past five years and their clear commitment to the development of the Wills and Probate department made them the obvious choice to pursue my ambitions in the legal sector.”

Head of Department, Elin Philips, said “Recruiting experienced solicitors like Margaret, Sarah and Paul represents a large investment for Harding Evans and underlines the huge potential for this side of the business.”

“The size of people’s estates is rising and changes both in legislation and the structure of families have increased the complexity involved in this area of the law. We are investing in extra resources to serve this growing need.”

Harding Evans, which was established in 1871, is the 8th largest law firm in Wales with a total staff of over 120, including 11 partners and over 50 fee-earners.

The firm is currently pursuing a strategy to double in size over the next five years to meet the growing demands from businesses and private clients in the Newport area and across South East Wales.
